UCD in Common
Urea Cycle Disorders (UCD) affect ~1 in 35,000 people. In people with a UCD, the body cannot convert ammonia safely, and ammonia builds up in the body and can reach toxic levels in the blood and cause brain damage. People living with a UCD must adhere to a strict, low-protein diet. The UCD community lacked comprehensive resources and peer-to-peer perspectives to understand their condition and get the support they needed.
We created UCD in Common, an unbranded website, to help patients understand their condition and connect with others. From the website and cooking classes to workgroups and social media, we helped educate and bring them together. The ultimate goal was to help them learn about RAVICTI – a nitrogen scavenger that helps to control elevated levels of ammonia.
